The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will appoint batik designs from Indonesia as one of the cultural heritages in May this year. According to him, the entire process of getting batik recognized is hard and long enough. There are a number of demands that have to be fulfilled first.
One of them is the preparation of academical material about batik and the full support of the government in the decision made. If UNESCO is to decide that batik indeed is a heritage, the Indonesian government as well as the people, are responsible to protect the original batik. At this moment, Indonesia has been appointed six cultural heritage subjects appointed by UNESCO; they are the tropical forests, Komodo, the historical site of Sangiran, the Borobudur temple, the Prambanan temples and keris.
